Summer Reading

Dear Curtis Families,

Each child at Curtis has worked very hard this year to learn and grow as a person and as a student. Reading has been a major component in that growth. According to research from the Reading is Fundamental group, a student who does not read over the summer can lose as much as 22% of their reading level! Prevent this reading loss by encouraging your child to read (at least 15-20 minutes daily) during the summer. Read with your child, read alongside them, show them the joys of reading by being a reader yourself. Choose selections from our summer reading list, books from the public library, or ones from your collection. Remember, this is fun reading, and all reading counts, whether it is a chapter book, a graphic novel, a cookbook, a newspaper, an audiobook, a magazine, etc. Kids who enjoy reading will keep reading and keep succeeding. Thank you for encouraging your child to read this summer!

Happy reading!
